2009

8 years, a long hard slog with Bush as president.

In 2000, Bush campaigned for a more “humble” foreign policy and a smaller government. Neither ever had a chance. The events of 9-11 were obviously tremendous but also were an opportunity in many ways for Bush, to present himself less as an enlightened leader but as more of a military one, a war president. In other words, a cloak was immediately available to hide all of the other deficiencies. Thus it was no coincidence for Bush to adopt this principal persona.

Bush began his presidency merely talking of reforms but when faced with the realities of his own cabinets inclincations all of this was soon abandoned.

And although he started with the beginnings of a peace policy his administration engaged in wars and diplomacy that significantly expanded the empire and global influence. And finally became more chaotic during the end of his term facing little opposition in terms of domestic policy.

Although apparently not technically retarded, Bush was awkward enough for this charge to surface from time to time. The suspicious policy enactments were presented as tools to protect American citizens but in the end only serve to contain its inhabitants in a controlled state. We are in effect “locked down”. All movement can be easily tracked. Be it physical movement or financial. Any transaction can be “spied” on. The recent whistleblower over NSA eavsesdropping confirms this in part.

The terrorist laws are all setup. Now its just a matter of declaring anyone a terrorist. In some cases such a declaration is just a minor formality.

Those of us who lived through the Bush presidency must now live with its consequences. They will continue to be long and hard. He is gone to be sure, but to be concerned about what is next in our history? We don’t know. We’ll all be dead.

Goodbye, George Bush!
