The Bush Farewell: Goodbye 'El Hechizado'

For many reasons, I find similarities between the gradual political and economic decline of the United States and Hapsburg Spain. The coming years will see decay and stagnation in the United States while the rest of the globe undergoes a transformation. The greatest expansion of government that began 7 years ago and unlike any other expansion before it, will continue in earnest under the new Obama administration.

Such a bloated and corrupt government as that in the U.S. will continue to fail prescribing its own medicine attempting to “fix” a broken economy. I suspect that not only is the U.S. in a deep recession it is also beginning a transformation that will end with adoption of a new currency and ultimate loss of liberty.

While the U.S. government transitions to a new administration it will not only remain ignorant but new crooks will take over. Obama may be the only one in his administration that really “means” well for the rest and will think he is actually helping. The rest of government will be staffed with “lifers” that will satisfy their own avarice as the last administration did. New crooks for old. Welcome the new boss, same as the old boss, for the rest of the U.S.

The U.S. clearly lacks real leadership. A leader that can accurately address the symptoms of a failing empire. If given the chance the American populace would come around. But without any effective leader in sight the steady march to self-destruction will continue.

What are the specifics? What evidence supports such harsh criticism or prediction?

In the first place, there is too much ground to cover economically to argue what is wrong here. The evidence will be apparent but it will of course be too late to remedy once everyone is in general agreement on this topic.

The Bush farewell? Not much to consider except that his view of matters is deficient, and seems to dream of a 1950’s Eisenhower America. Talk of good and evil which everyone would agree with but makes no connections he is implying. To be sure, he makes the intended connection but it is quite simply wrong.

The U.S. has lost considerable prestige it will most likely never regain. Yes, so what? Agreed. But these 2 wars, Iraq & Afghanistan, reveal to the world how rundown the military has become, and ineffective U.S. politics now is, and that successive Administrations will take the wrong actions to improve them.

Similarities between Charles II and W. exist I would argue. No, W. is not retarded like Charles II as a result of continual inbreeding, but during the reign of Charles II the decline of power accelerated due to such ineffective policies. So too W. has accelerated the American decline hurtling into what will be the ultimate destruction of the American Dollar and liberties that have been historically tied to a distinct and soverign economic medium of exchange. After W. has splurged resources in the middle east and initiated unrestricted bureaucratic expansion as well as unlimited deficit spending little will be left to Congressional discretion. Beyond insane policy decisions there may be a few slight physical resemblances between the two.

Yes, the Obama administration will continue what started under Bush. It’s clear that neither really grasps the consequences of their actions, economically speaking, and the current direction will ruin whatever is left. Meanwhile the Republicans will retreat to language that argues the somewhat better but predictable principles, smaller government etc which are quickly abandoned once in power of course and blame Obama for the mess as it continues to unfold.
