Credit where it may be due?

According to the latest echoes from the past administration Cheney argued for military force to be used in Buffalo to arrest domestic terrorist suspects

This show of force was desired by Cheney to mostly sell the militaristic product as necessary in the so called war on terror. Some have argued since 9-11 that a smarter intelligence effort utilizing good old fashioned law enforcement techniques would be sufficient to wage a war on terror. Consider that most if not all useful terrorist related suspects were “arrested” in Pakistan since 9-11 without which what could the Bush administration claim as progress in the war except for nebulous gains in Iraq. Nebulous in terms of terrorist relations to 9-11 participants.

Clearly, the U.S. didn’t wisely coordinate the efforts of its own intelligence agencies. Therefore without any advanced skills to employ, the U.S. was much like Mike Tyson who was so frustrated he no longer had any boxing skills he bit the ear off of Holyfield. The U.S. crushing of Iraq is simply a demonstration of brute force that pacified Americans who wanted to strike back but did so in animalistic Mike Tyson fashion.

Cheney’s attempt to persuade Bush to use military force, which spits in the face of the framers, was simply an ostentatious attempt to rebuff detractors that argued for a simpler and more sophisticated cloak & dagger mission against Al Quaeda, rather than a tyrannical path of destruction. The display of military troops in the streets “arresting” citizens would scare only the most naive Americans that may be the brute force was necessary.

For whatever reason, Bush decided as the decider to let good old fashion police work accomplish the objective. And of course it worked out fine. If the all that weaponry was unleashed as Cheney wanted the outcome could not have been better but possibly even worse.
